Built in 1932 by locally renowned architect Irwin T. Catherine, the School Administration Building was one of the original architectural specimens that were integral to the creation of Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin Parkway. Upon its completion, this landmark building featured grand Art Deco styling — as evidenced in everything from light fixtures to grilles and signage — with unexpected eclectic touches, such as a Neo-Greek board room, a Neo-Colonial Secretary’s office and Superintendent’s office, a Georgian President’s office, and a Spanish provincial cafeteria. For many decades, this space served a civic purpose as the administration headquarters for the the School District of Philadelphia, during which time maintenance and repairs were done efficiently and inexpensively without proper attention to detail or appreciation for the historically significant architectural fabric of the building.

Upon its acquisition of the SAB building, PMC's executive team applied its proven finely tuned, cost-effective approach to not only restore its original splendor, but also transform it into the luxurious 2100 Parkway Apartments. During this process, the in-house construction team preserved the main historic interiors — including the board room, first-floor offices, and the Art Deco auditorium, as well as the marble-lined corridors on most floors — while upgrading and replacing the existing systems and flooring. By all accounts, the newly transformed building — which won the 2007 Landmark Building Award from AIA Philadelphia — attracted an eager tenant population and provided collateral enhancements and residential appeal to the area immediately surrounding this prestigious Parkway location.
